Although the Twelve step program is highly recommended there are other forms of treatment that a sober coach, recovery coach or sober companion can help you with. Smart Recovery and Refuge Recovery are some that come to mind. Basically, the answer is no you don’t have to do AA or any twelve step program if you work with a a sober coach, recovery coach or sober companion. Everyone is different and may benefit from a different method than what worked for someone else.
